A former Victorian prison worker has copped community service for strangling a woman in a terrifying display of violence.
Long Gully man Chris Eddy, 49, faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Thursday pleading guilty to strangling a woman.
The Star Trek courier attacked the woman after a nasty fight at a Long Gully home about 10.30pm on April 11, documents tendered to the court revealed.
Eddy stormed into a room the victim was in and came at her “aggressively”.
The victim started trying to push him away, but Eddy “grabbed onto her and twisted her into a strange position”, police stated.
The victim tried to gouge his eye to escape, but Eddy grabbed her around the neck with both hands, pushing her onto the bed and strangling her.
“(The victim) couldn’t breath and lost track of time, stating ‘it felt like ages’,” police facts state.
After Eddy let go, the victim fled outside and crouched behind a car in the carport hiding from the offender, calling the police.
Eddy came outside and tried to pick her up off the ground and get her to come inside.
The victim “felt scared and didn’t know what else would happen” and refused to go back inside with Eddy.
When police arrived, they heard “distressed cries” and found Eddy “standing over” the victim.
Police found the victim “visibly distressed”, “crying and shaking” with several marks on her neck left by the strangulation, with redness and scratches on her face.
Eddy was arrested on the spot, and during a police interview denied strangling her, and claimed he was defending himself from the victim.
Magistrate Trieu Huynh convicted and sentenced Eddy to a 12 month Community Corrections Order with 75 hours of community service.
