Sisters who watched their mum die in a horrific Bridgewater North crash are on the long road to recovery as their family farewells their “carefree” angel, Cassandra Rayner.
Ms Rayner, a Donald mother of three, was killed in a fatal crash at Bridgewater North, 40km northwest of Bendigo, on Sunday, March 23.
Police said her 4WD was travelling along Bridgewater-Raywood Rd when it left the road and struck a tree.
The 32-year-old mother died at the scene.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said two girls in the car, aged five and six years old, sustained abdominal injuries and were taken to Bendigo Hospital in a stable condition.
Two weeks on Ms Rayner’s sister, Kirra Munt, said her nieces, Kyetta and Latoya were physically “on the road to recovery” despite dealing with their mother’s death.
Ms Munt said her older sister was the textbook definition of a great mother, wife, daughter and sibling.
“She was a carefree mother to her three beautiful children, Ziek, Kyetta and Latoya, and an amazing wife to her husband Tim,” Ms Munt said.
Ms Munt said when their mother, Katherine Murphy, suffered a stroke 14 years ago it was Ms Rayner who stepped up and cared for their disabled mum.
“She stood up even more in the last two years after our mother passed away,” she said.
Ms Munt said her sister lived her life to the “absolute fullest”.
“Trust me when I say, when Cassandra was around there was never a dull moment,” she said.
“And if she didn't like something going on around her you, well she definitely would tell you so you knew about it.
“We know you’re shining down on us and shining that little brighter for your husband and beautiful children.
“(You’re) forever and always in out hearts.
“Rest easy beautiful angel.”
