A vile Bendigo pedo has been busted with a vile stash of child abuse material on his bedside table he claimed he came across on a “dodgy profile on a dating website”.

Brett Anthony Guy, 44, pleaded guilty at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court to possessing child abuse material.

Police raided Guy’s Golden Square home and seized a black Samsung Galaxy phone from his bedside table in September 2021.

The phone wasn’t analysed until March 2023, the court heard, which revealed 14 images of pre-pubescent girls’ genitalia.

Police interviewed the pedo in June last year, with Guy making a no comment statement regarding the possession of child abuse material.

The court heard Guy claimed he came across the child abuse material when he “clicked on a dodgy profile on a dating website.”

After entering a plea of guilty, Guy’s defence lawyer Damien Roberts said the pedo was “very ashamed” of his offending, however a psychological report found Guy had “limited insight” into the offending.

Mr Roberts said the offending was less severe because he had not preyed upon or groomed any children and the child abuse material possession was “confined to short period of time in his life”.

The court heard Guy was at the time “grappling with multiple emotions stemming from the grief and loss of his mother”, difficulties finding employment and social isolation.

Mr Roberts said Guy was “lonely and confused” at the time of the offending.

Magistrate Johanna Metcalf adjourned the matter to April to assess Guy for suitability for a community based sentence.
