A Bendigo youth who crawled through a doggie door with a meat cleaver while the homeowner slept inside before stealing their car is looking at a hefty stint in prison.
Deklan Theobold, 18, pleaded guilty at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday to charges of home invasion and car theft.
Theobold wielded a meat cleaver during a home invasion as he broke in through a doggie door of a Fairfield home just after midnight on February 22.
The crook stole a number of personal items and the keys to a black Subaru, which he also stole, valued at about $20,000.
The charge of home invasion carries a maximum sentence of 25 years imprisonment.
He was committed to the County Court for a plea hearing in October.
Theobold, who did not apply for bail, has been in custody since his arrest on March 1.
