A gang of Bendigo hoons are at large after savagely bashing a man in the street and running him down in a car after he told them to stop doing burnouts.

It is understood the 67-year-old Bendigo man confronted a group of offenders who were hooning on Sparrowhawk Rd, Long Gully about 10pm on Thursday.

When he told them to stop doing burnouts in the residential street the gang of hoons assaulted him with a weapon before running him down with the car they were hooning in and fleeing the scene.

The victim was left with serious injuries and was flown to hospital.

The gang of hoons remain at large and police are investigating the incident.
