Bendigo league clubs get busy in the recruiting market

Recruiting is in full swing in the Bendigo Football Netball League. Here are the latest moves from across the competition.

Bendigo clubs have been busy in the off-season, making moves to move them up the ladder.

From current VFL players to former club greats, there has been a swagger of recruits across central Victoria.

Here is the latest from each club and to read the recruits from earlier this off-season, head here.

Castlemaine

The Magpies have re-signed players who used to play for the club. Lloyd Butcher and David Wilson return after playing for Waverley Blues and Maldon respectively. The club has also recruited Tom Wilson who played for the Marong reserves and won a premiership with the club last year in the Loddon Valley Football League.

Eaglehawk

The club has added Marcus Angove after signing Jarryd and Kallen Geary last year. Angove, a midfielder and defender, comes to the club from Lockington Bamawm United in the Heathcote District Football League.

Gisborne

The reigning premiers have added Zac Denahy to their squad with the full forward joining from Castlemaine. The former Magpie kicked 18 goals in 11 matches last season, including nine in the last three matches. In 2019, he kicked 80 goals for Harcourt in the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League.

Golden Square

The Bulldogs have signed Tom Toma who returns to the club after a few years playing for Cohuna. He played in their grand final loss last year to Kerang in the Central Murray Football League and was in the best players in 10 of 11 games.

Kangaroo Flat

The club has welcomed exciting trio Alex Woltering, Harry Whitty and Gai Chuol to the club after making a raft of signings last year. Woltering joins the club after playing for Haileybury Old Boys while Whitty has plenty of experience in the VAFA and on the Mornington Peninsula. Chuol is tall athletic player who comes from Upwey Tecoma in the Outer East premier division.

Kyneton

No moves have been announced by the Tigers yet.

Maryborough

The club has signed Bailey Edwards who returns after playing for Carisbrook for the past couple of years in the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football League. The midfielder will be looking to fill a major void left behind with key players Liam Latch and Aiden Hare leaving the club in the off-season.

Sandhurst

The Dragons will have former Richmond and Carlton player Andrew Collins join the club. The forward returns after playing for Bridgewater in the Loddon Valley Football League, kicking 54 goals in 16 games. He is joined by Will Moran and Harry Monk who signed after playing with Castlemaine and Mildura respectively last season. Lachlan Tardew, who plays for Collingwood in the VFL, will also play for the Dragons when he isn’t involved with the Pies.

South Bendigo

The team has not added any signings after making moves early in the off-season.

Strathfieldsaye

The Storm have added former players Matt Harvey, Alex Powell and Lachlan Bonney to their team. Bonney was the first player to feature in 200 games for the club. Powell returns after playing for Tooleybuc in the Central Murray Football League and winning the best and fairest there. The club have also added Jed Brereton who is a versatile tall playing on Carlton’s VFL list and Luke Webb who played for St Joseph’s in Geelong.
