A Bendigo father-of-two who threatened to slit the throats of three women claims he had no memory of the calls after spending days in a padded cell.

The 32-year-old man faced Bendigo Magistrates Court accused of making the threats to kill while out on bail.

The Bendigo man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced charges in relation to two incidents last year.

The court heard that in August the Bendigo tradie was found wandering the streets armed with a wooden chair leg, a hammer and a knife.

Police said they searched the man and found stolen cards, vials of GHB and a zip-lock bag with what officers believed to be methamphetamine.

The Bendigo man told officers he forgot the knife was in his bag, and when asked about the wooden chair leg he said “I just pulled it up”.

In December, four months after the drugs and weapons arrest, the Bendigo father began contacting a woman.

Using his mother’s phone he repeatedly called to abuse the woman, accusing her of being a “dirty slut”, threatening to burn her car and kill her family.

“I will cut your throat. I will cut your mum’s throat. I will cut your sister’s throat,” he said in a call.

“Just remember you chose this, you c — t.”

The Bendigo man’s lawyer said his client had no memory of the phone calls.

A Bendigo Health statement said he presented to the hospitals service on mental health concerns due to his depression and social personality disorder.

His lawyer said the man was “isolated, put in a padded cell and injected with medication”.

“His memory and recollection from that time on is extremely limited,” the lawyer said.

“He has no recollection of the phone calls or making those threats.”

His lawyer said the unknown medication may have contributed to the Bendigo father’s violent outburst.

He said his client, who had served 21 days in custody, was involved in the Orange Door program which works with family violence perpetrators.

Magistrate Patrick Southey said the man’s prior convictions “do not reflect this angry person”.

“The offences are alarming …(but) you’re not a lost cause,” Mr Southey said.

The Bendigo man plead guilty to the charges, and was sentenced to a two month community corrections order.
