A would-be Bendigo councillor who ran unsuccessfully in the 2024 local government elections has been charged after allegedly attacking her neighbour’s security cameras with a garden rake.
Mary-Ann Martinek, who was a candidate in the Golden Square Ward, was set to face Bendigo Magistrates'’ Court on Monday charged with breaching a personal safety intervention order.
The alleged breach comes after Ms Martinek allegedly damaged her neighbour’s security cameras with a garden rake in July.
Ms Martinek did not attend court, providing a doctor’s note stating she was “medically unfit” for court.
The court heard it was the third time Ms Martinek has been “medically unfit” to face the charges since the first mention in October.
It is understood the intervention order was brought against Ms Martinek after she allegedly damaged her neighbour’s property in a long-running feud.
During her campaign in the Bendigo local government election in October last year she spruiked her work as the founder of the Long Gully Veterans Centre where she sits on the board.
Ms Martinek’s case will return to court in February.
