Adam Currie accused in $3.7 million MDMA Strathfieldsaye drug haul

A man accused of stockpiling $3.7 million in drugs on a rural property 10km southeast of Bendigo has not applied for bail.
Adam Currie appeared at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 28, facing charges of commercial quantity drug trafficking, drug possession, possessing a table press, and negligently dealing with the proceeds of crime.
Currie’s lawyer appeared before Magistrate Patrick Southey to confirm dates for the Strathfieldsaye man.
There was no application for bail.
Mr Currie will be represented by a Melbourne lawyer Jordana Fayman after initially contacting a Bendigo firm.
Mr Southey joked there had been some legal “poaching going on”.
Currie, who will remain in custody, told the court he required medication for his PTSD and an injury.
The 47-year-old Strathfieldsaye man was arrested by Drug Taskforce detectives on Tuesday, April 27, following a Taylors Lane raid.
Leading Senior Constable Kendra Jackson said detectives alleged they found drugs with a street value in excess of $3.7 million from the Strathfieldsaye property.
Police allege detectives seized 25kg of MDMA tablets, about 75kg of powders, chemicals, dyes and binding agents used in the manufacture of MDMA tablets and commercial drug manufacturing machinery.
He will reappear in Bendigo Magistrates Court on July 28 for a committal hearing.
