Myer is offering big discounts to reignite business after reopening in a southern Melbourne shopping centre. And the department store isn’t the only retailer to throw open the doors again with huge price drops to lure shoppers back.

Myer has reopened at Frankston joining dozens of other fashion retailers welcoming customers back to the Bayside Centre.

The department store, which had been shut since March 29, was not inundated with eager shoppers, despite price discounts by as much as 50 per cent on some items.

When Leader visited yesterday there were only small pockets of people, mainly mums with strollers and older women.

The beauty counters were stripped bare of product and fittings for lingerie, suits and shoes were off limits.

But change rooms were open and being monitored by staff.

A staff member who did not wish to be named said while she was excited to be back she had felt nervous about returning to work.

“I feel lucky to have a job. I didn’t know what to expect. But so far everything has gone smoothly,” she said.
