The owner of an iconic cafe in the heart of a small Gippsland town fears the business could shut down if it’s not sold in the next two months.
Operating for more than two decades, The Goon Eatery on Main St in Nar Nar Goon has been listed on the market for $90,000.
The team said in a statement it hoped to sell the “beautiful cafe” before the lease ended on March 31, which the owner decided not to renew.
“The sad news is that if we don’t sell, we will definitely be closing our doors,” the statement said.
“I think it will be a shame to not have this business in Nar Nar Goon, so if you know anyone who may be interested, now is the time to reach out.
“The business has been successfully running as a cafe for nearly nine years. Prior to that it was a takeaway and general store/milk bar and has been a fixture in the Nar Nar Goon community for well over 30 years.
“The Goon Eatery has a strong established regular clientele as well as lots of new customers as Nar Nar Goon and surroundings areas continue to grow just like the business.
“It’s a perfect business for a couple, best friends or even a family to run.”
Pakenham man Dwayne James told the Herald Sun he had been to the cafe a few times and always felt welcomed there.
“It’s a great little cafe and a good way to meet the locals, good coffee too,” the 35-year-old said.
“I heard the business was for sale and I really hope a potential buyer considers it as there would be many people sad to see it close for good.”
Mr James said the cafe was in a convenient location.
“If you’re travelling on the freeway and want to stop off for a break, the cafe would be a perfect spot,” he said.
“It’s on the edge of Gippsland, it’s worth popping in for a visit.
