A homeless man accused of murdering Morwell woman Narelle Emerson is expected to learn his fate early next week.
Scott Kennedy is charged with the murder of 45-year-old Narelle Emerson who was found unresponsive in her Sydney Rd home on October 18, 2019 and later died from her injuries at The Alfred hospital.
A three-week jury trial started in the Supreme Court on June 4 after Mr Kennedy entered a not guilty plea to the charge.
The Crown finished its evidence on Thursday and Justice Jane Dixon asked that the jury return to court for the closing addresses and her summing up on Monday next week.
Mr Kennedy is blaming Ms Emmerson’s death on her neighbour John Flegg, who has since died, who was in an on/off relationship with her.
Mr Flegg died of cancer in 2020 but his 000 call and conversation with police was played in court during the initial stages of the trial.
The court has heard that Ms Emmerson was taking medication for her epilepsy and had long-term issues with alcohol and cannabis use.
Paramedics discovered she was unconscious but breathing spontaneously and had multiple bruises on her body, a bleeding laceration at the back of her head and severe swelling to her neck and face.
She was wearing a top that appeared to be ripped down the front and a large quantity of orange and white capsules were found on the bed.
The jury is expected to go out either on Monday afternoon or Tuesday next week.
