Revealed: Best schools in Bass Coast based on 2022 NAPLAN results

An independent review of grade five and year nine NAPLAN results has revealed the top performing schools in Bass Coast.

An independent analysis of newly-released 2022 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools that performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests.

The best performing schools in Bass Coast were Newhaven College (Year 9) and Cowes Primary School (Year 5).

Newhaven College performed the best in year nine results, with an average of 577.00 and a ranking of 248th.

They were followed by the only other secondary school in the area Bass Coast College who achieved an average of 563.00 and ranked 370th.

Cowes Primary was the best performing primary school (Grade 5 results) with an average of 515.80 and a ranking of 434th.

Inverloch/Kongwak Primary School was the second best performing primary school with an average of 507.40.

Wonthaggi North Primary was the lowest performing primary school (Grade 5 results) with an average of 448.60 and a rank of 1,535th.

Cowes Primary School Principal said he is “extremely proud” of all the students who undertook NAPLAN tests.

“We have achieved some pleasing results especially in reading which has been a focus area for the school in the past few years,” he said.

“It is validating for students and teachers to see those outcomes.”

“I think it makes everyone feel happy.”

In broader regional Victoria Harkaway Hills College, in Narre Warren North, had better primary results than any other school in Regional Victoria, scoring an average of 592.4 across the five test subjects.

To determine how each school performed in 2022, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Year 5 or Year 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government‘s MySchool website.
