Police officer seriously injured, highway closed in South Gippsland crash

A police officer has been seriously injured in a crash in South Gippsland after coming off his motorcycle.

A police officer has been seriously injured after he crashed his motorcycle in South Gippsland on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the South Gippsland Hwy near Stony Creek, just after 12pm on Thursday.

It is believed two solo officers on motorbikes had been driving down the highway when one crashed.

The male Leading Senior Constable was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with upper body injuries and is in a stable condition.

The cause of the collision is being investigated and remains ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, has dash cam/CCTV footage or information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.

The South Gippsland Hwy has reopened.
