A father has been remembered as an “absolute top bloke” after he was tragically killed in a house fire at Moe.

William Spitzbart Gourley, 39, died at a King St property about 11.15pm on Sunday after he was pulled from the burning home.

It’s believed two other family members were inside the house at the time.

A man was flown to hospital with serious injuries and a woman managed to escape uninjured and called for help.

Kirsty Duguid said her 11-year-old daughter Matilda will miss her dad.

“William and I broke up 12 years ago but had a great friendship and our daughter loved him very much,” she told Leader.

“He will be greatly missed.

“He has definitely left a hole in a few hearts.”

William was a passionate Western Bulldogs supporter and a father to three other children, Tamzyn, Tyrese and Wyatt.

Daniel Avalos Waters said his friend will always be loved and remembered.

“He was an absolute top bloke,” he said.

“So sad to lose an awesome man.”

Tributes have flowed on social media with friends describing William as a beautiful person.

“I will always love [him] and do anything for [him],” Deegan Benson said.

“I just want [him] back...life is really mean.”

Brandon Scott said he would miss his mate.

“He was a great bloke who loved his fishing,” he said.

“My condolences to his family and loved ones.”

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said 24 firefighters were called to the scene to find the house fully alight.

Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said detectives from the Arson Squad and fire investigators attended the property on Monday morning.

It is unclear what caused the blaze but investigations remain ongoing.
