Man bailed after allegedly attacking crossing guard in Sale

A man has been charged after he allegedly hit an elderly crossing lady while she was working in Gippsland.

A man has been charged after he allegedly hit an elderly crossing lady while she was working in Gippsland.

The 69-year-old Sale woman was allegedly smacked across the face while working a school crossing in York St in Sale on Thursday afternoon about 3.30pm.

It is alleged the attack was unprovoked and occurred after the woman asked the alleged offender to move away as he was standing too close to her.

The man then allegedly hit the left side of her face, causing her to fall to the ground and hit her head.

She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A Sale man handed himself into police on Friday and was charged with recklessly causing injury and unlawful assault.

The 20-year-old man was bailed and will appear in the Sale Magistrates Court next month.
