A Gippsland man who allegedly assaulted a police officer has been battling drug issues, a court has heard.
Jarrod Doran, 38, appeared via video link at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court on Tuesday, March 23.
Court documents obtained by The Bass Coast News reveal Doran was charged with six offences that allegedly took place on December 1, 2020.
Doran allegedly assaulted an emergency worker on duty and did without lawful excuse intentionally cause injury.
The allegations also include unlawfully assaulting a person with a hammer and committing an indictable offence of assaulting a police officer while on bail.
Doran’s lawyer Matthew McLellan said there were “drug issues” at play.
“He is someone with treatment needs,” he said.
Mr McLellan said the Alberton man had a “reasonable work history” as a carpenter.
Magistrate Ann Collins said the incident was “concerning”.
The matter was adjourned for a committal mention on a later date at Sale Magistrates’ Court.
