A Korumburra author has shared an inspiring message with the release of her fourth poetry collection.

“Success comes in different levels. Those small dreams, they are the important ones.”

As a local Korumburra author prepares to have her “first proper book signing in a proper bookstore” she said it is important to dream, “even if they are small dreams”.

Jacinta Hudson has released her fourth poetry collection, titled ‘Reimagined Moments’, which is, as the title suggests a “reimagining” of her first published collection, ‘Just a Thought’.

Jacinta said she “didn’t do Just a Thought justice” when she originally published it as it was “just a throw together” joke with a friend.

“I was writing poetry in high school and I jokingly said to a friend that if I could get 100 poems together I would publish a book,” she said.

“But I never thought I could be a successful creative person because it wouldn’t provide me with a weekly, stable paycheck,” she said.

Now 10 years on Jacinta hopes she is an example of success can be measured is different ways.

‘Reimagined Moments’ is a 10th anniversary edition of ‘Just a Thought’ with the poems rewritten, reordered, and refreshed. It also includes bonus poems and an interview with Jacinta.

“I didn’t do ‘Just a Thought’ justice because I didn’t really care but this time I am doing it properly, getting a cover done and really just giving the poems the life they deserved the first time around,” she said.

This time around Jacinta has been able to approach the poems with more a more “mature angle” and a “perspective of growth”.

Jacinta said she had always been drawn to writing, especially throughout high school when she was “going through a lot”.

“I didn’t really start taking it seriously until 2017 and at that point it was like this little voice in my head saying ‘hey remember me’ and then taking the driver's seat,” she said.

“Writing chose me.”

Getting her readers to connect with the emotions behind her poems is what Jacinta loves about sharing her poetry with the world.

“I want people to connect with it. I am going to be doing it forever, saying here are a few words to make you feel,” she said.

Outside of writing Jacinta works in hospitality and is a mother to a 3-year-old boy.

“When I am not writing I love to organise spaces and spend time with my fiance and my son,” she said.

Jacinta’s book signing will be hosted by The Hare and the Tortoise Bookshop in Korumburra from 11am until 1pm on Saturday August 6.

“Having this book signing is a dream come true, even if it’s a small dream,” Jacinta said.

She has three other poetry collections out and is also working on some novels to bring something new to her collection.
