Emergency services have been forced to cut a person from the wreckage of a horror smash at the entrance to Phillip Island.

Five emergency vehicles responded to the crash in San Remo, which happened about 4.20pm Monday.

It’s understood a person was trapped in a vehicle fire at the intersection of Phillip Island, San Remo, Anderson Link and Punch Bowl roads.

An SES spokeswoman said two cars were involved in the crash, and the driver was cut from the wreckage.

“Two SES units from Wonthaggi and San Remo responded to the scene and worked to free the trapped person from the car,” she said.

A lifesaving helicopter also arrived at the scene.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said it had taken two people to the Dandenong Hospital and flown a third person to Melbourne and all three were now in a stable condition.
