A family of four have escaped a fire that ripped through their property in the early hours of the morning.

Acting Sergeant Brad Heber told The Bass Coast News the blaze happened about 5.30am at June St in Adams Estate on Wednesday.

“We aren’t sure of the exact cause of it but it appears to be accidental,” he said.

“Possibly some candles were left on or something similar.”

CFA spokesman Mark Blackman said the scene was declared under control about 6.15am with crews containing the fire in the lounge room.

Six CFA vehicles attended from Wonthaggi, Kernot-Grantville, Corinella, Kernot, and Lang Lang brigades.

Acting Sgt Heber said a family of four were inside the house when it caught fire but they managed to escape without injury.

The blaze has been deemed as non-suspicious and alternative accommodation has been arranged for the family.
