A huge eyesore in Gippsland has been demolished after residents were left frustrated with the state of the site.
Demolition work started on the Giant Worm on Monday and it’s expected to take two weeks to clean up the derelict building.
The former Wildlife Wonderland Giant Earthworm Museum owned by property investor and service station owner Nick Andrianakos was covered in graffiti and became a hotspot for squatters, drug users and feral animals.
Mystery still surrounds what the site will be used for, but speculation online says it could be turned into a housing estate or a petrol station.
A Caltex petrol station currently sits next to the 10 Acton Rd property that is also owned by Mr Andrianakos.
Mr Andrianakos told The Bass Coast News he had “no idea” what the site will be developed into.
Bass resident Carola Adolf, who has lived in the area for 27 years, said it was frustrating to see “a once thriving tourist destination” turn into a “magnet for trespassers, vandals and unknown individuals”.
She hopes someone will invest in the land as it requires more than “just a quick fix”.
“I would love to see a developer build an age-care facility or anything else that requires a new start,” she said.
