Authorities have advised swimmers to stay out of the water after reports a bull shark was spotted in an East Gippsland river.
VicEmergency shared an alert that a dangerous animal was located in the Mitchell River, near the Lind Bridge in Bairnsdale just before 2pm Tuesday.
“This advice is being issued for Mitchell River, Bairnsdale to Eagle Point,” the alert read.
“The shark is reported to be a bull shark.”
People have been warned not to enter the river until further notice.
Users took to Facebook their concerns on the sighting.
“A bull shark? I didn’t realise they came down this far,” Justin Nitsuj wrote.
“A bull shark??? no swimming for me again ever,” Karina Sharp said.

“I didn’t even think we had bull sharks in Victoria — clearly they’re on the move down south,” commented another user.
