A council in Victoria’s southeast will axe a short stay rental registration at one of its seaside towns, after locals were concerned on the increase of anti social behaviour near their homes.
A petition, that received 82 signatures, was submitted to the Bass Coast Shire Council requesting the cancellation of a short stay rental in one of the courts in Corinella.
The petition was created as surrounding residents were worried about the repeated disturbance of their peace, environmental health issues, anti-social behaviour, breaches of road safety and the impact on amenities and people’s mental health.
At the council meeting on Wednesday, February 19, councillors voted in favour of the petition.

Councillor John Temby said everyone had a right to live in a relaxed, safe and quiet environment.
“This petition is detailing an instance where there have been serious breaches of anti-social behaviour — and I think that’s unacceptable,” Mr Temby said.
“We need to have a mechanism to make sure that it’s stopped and it doesn’t occur in other places where this short stay accommodation occurs.”
Councillor Jan Thompson said she “absolutely supports” the petition as she was concerned about the safety of children in the area and the amount of parked cars that were in the court when visitors went to stay at the property.
A report of the Corniella’s short stay rental issues will be presented at the council meeting in March.
