The votes came in fast, so much so there was a three-way-tie. Here are the best butcher shops in the Bass Coast.

Bass Coast residents love a good tender piece of meat so it’s no surprise votes for the Bass Coast’s best butcher resulted in a three-way-tie.

Here are the three best butchers in the area — as voted by you.

Wonthaggi Meats’ Graeme Finlay said he was “pretty pleased” being voted as one of the best butchers in the Bass Coast.

“It’s good knowing our customers are happy with the service that we give them,” he said.

Mr Finlay opened Wonthaggi Meats in 1993 after working in a few other shops and abattoirs across Victoria.

He describes himself as a perfectionist and enjoys seeing customers happy with their products.

“I don’t like when someone has ordered something and we haven’t got it or I can’t get it,” he said.

“I like everything to roll smoothly.”

Mr Finaly believes customers value the Wonthaggi Meats team’s friendly nature.

“We enjoy a joke and we can talk to the right customers about the right things,” Mr Finaly said.

“We have quality meat and a quality service because that’s what gives us the best edge against supermarkets.”

ISLAND PRIMARY PRODUCE

After taking over Island Primary Produce three years ago from butchers Ted and Christine Walsh, Jake and Tania Albendea are grateful for being recognised in their community.

“It’s such a nice feeling to be noticed by your customers,” Mrs Albendea said.

The Phillip Island family owned business prides themselves on their quality meats

“We cut all our bodies from scratch so we don’t get any box meat,” Mrs Albendea said.

“We make everything ourselves which a lot of butchers actually don’t do anymore which is a unique thing”

Even though they work long hours, Mr and Mrs Albendea love helping people.

“We have gained a great relationship with a lot of our customers so if the elderly need something delivered we can do that for them,” Mrs Albendea said.

“It’s a bit more of a personal experience with us.”

Located in Inverloch, Chapmans Free Range Butchery has been opened for four years and is owned by Mark Chapman.

Mr Chapman has owned numerous butcher shops in the past 21 years but he wanted to create a whole carcass butchery.

He prides himself on selling quality meat from local farmers in the area.

“I’m a point of difference from other butcher shops and supermarkets because I know where everything comes from and I know the quality that’s in it as well,” Mr Chapman said.

“Once people taste the difference of the meat from a whole carcass butcher, they will never go back to eating stuff from the supermarket.”

The Inverloch butchery is located in the town’s industrial estate so Mr Chapman said he appreciates people driving out to his store.

“People can’t just walk down the street and get their bacon and eggs from us,” he said.

“They actually have to get in their car and come out to see us so we appreciate the support.”
