Western Hwy closed near Ararat after ’serious’ collision
A “serious” collision near Ararat where a person was killed has forced the closure of a major rural highway.

A driver has been killed after colliding with a truck in Victoria’s west, forcing the closure of a major rural highway.
The stretch of the Western Highway between Beaufort and Ararat has been closed in both directions after a car and truck collided near Buangor about 12.30pm on Tuesday.
The driver of the car died at the scene, while the triver and passenger of the truck were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Herald Sun understands the vehicles collided head-on.
Beaufort News and Tatts owner Jim Cox said motorists heading into town were being “diverted” off the highway towards the Sunraysia and Pyrenees Highways.
“There’s nothing coming into town from Ararat and everyone heading west (towards Ararat) is being diverted,” he said.
Ararat CFA has told people to “avoid the area”.
Police say the exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
