An unvaccinated City of Ballarat councillor has revealed she has tested positive to Covid-19 but says she is only suffering a “bad hair day”
Cr Tracey Hargreaves said she had “a sore throat” and “headaches” and would seek a four-month vaccine exemption when she leaves isolation.
“I am at home with Covid at the moment, as is my husband,” she said in a video posted to social media.
“Of course our two children are home too, they don’t have Covid but we are all isolating together.
“Apart from a bad hair day I am basically fine,” she said.
Ms Hargreaves revealed she hasn’t been vaccinated against the virus but won’t be “taking up a hospital bed” to get through it.
She will seek a four-month “natural immunity” exemption from the Federal Government when she leaves isolation next week so she can return to council.
“I am unvaccinated and have no jabs at all and now the beautiful thing is I have natural immunity,” she said.
The councillor said some people would be “upset she didn’t get sicker”.
“You should look after yourself in whatever way you want to, that's what I have done and I am fine.”
It comes after the City of Ballarat announced they would not reveal the vaccination status of its councillors.
In December CEO Evan King said councillors’ health decisions had to do with individual choice, and information about those choices were private and confidential.
Mr King said unvaccinated councillors could still participate in council business virtually.
