Ballarat’s Toby Clack is not only a smart student but he’s very handy at the eightball table.
The former St Patrick’s student is now a world champion in eightball after taking out the under-18 title in Morocco on Wednesday night.
Clack, who was last year’s dux of the school, beat fellow Australian Joshua Hands 8-5 in the best of 15 game final.
Using incredible skill and determination, the teenager raced to a seven games to one lead in the decider, getting on top early.
In game two he potted his last seven balls and then the eight ball to beat Hands who had one ball left of his own.
Then in game seven and eight he potted the last six of his own balls and the eight ball to again deny Hands who had one left again, and take a 7-2 lead in the match after the ninth game.
Hands would fight back, winning the next three games, but Clack would not be denied, winning the 13th game of the contest to claim the world title.
It’s been a massive week for Clack who combined with fellow Australian Sean Dempsey to win silver in the doubles final.
Hands and his teammate, Joseph Evans, were too good for their Aussie rivals claiming gold in the event.
More to come.
