The Mallow in Ballarat Central ‘permanently closed’ according to venue’s social media

Mystery surrounds the sudden closure of a popular Ballarat pub, with its Facebook page quietly changed to “permanently closed”.

A Ballarat Central pub appears to have suddenly closed for good.

The Mallow on Skipton St on Sunday indicated on social media that “due to health issues the pub will be closed”.

No further information was provided.

On July 2, a post said the venue would be closed “due to a few unforeseen events, including urgent renovations”.

The next day, 20 minutes before it was due to open, the pub said there would be a single day of closure “due to health related issues”.

Its Facebook page was marked as “permanently closed” on Monday.

On Wednesday afternoon, the inside of the Mallow was dark, with some chairs still tucked into tables and others packed up.

A screen remained on at the bar.

A Mornington Peninsula couple took over the Mallow in early 2023.

Calls to the pub on Wednesday afternoon went unanswered.
