Three men and a teenage girl are accused of the kidnapping, torture, and compelled rape of a man in Ballarat.

Taylu McCarthy, Joseph Haebich, James Nunn, and Bobby Slater appeared in Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Thursday in relation to the alleged incident.

The court heard members of the group convinced a man to enter a car in Ararat in March this year.

He was allegedly driven to an address in Ballarat East, where he was assaulted and questioned about money owed.

Charge sheets reveal the group intended to demand $17,000 from the complainant.

The man was struck to the face, fracturing his nose, and was hit with a baton.

Mr Haebich and Mr Nunn allegedly made the victim undress and Mr Nunn compelled him to penetrate himself with a 50-cent coin inside a condom.

The court heard Mr Nunn also injected the complainant’s arm with an unknown substance and with Mr Haebich bound the victim’s wrists using cable ties.

The victim was then allegedly placed in a vehicle with a blanket over his head and was driven to a home in Newington.

Inside he was made to point out items of value.

Mr Haebich allegedly collected an Apple computer, a tattoo gun, and a backpack, and passed them to Mr Slater to put in a car outside.

The victim’s wrists were tied with electric tape and as he was driven away from the property, he fell in and out of consciousness, the court heard.

The car stopped in Ballarat East for a short time afterwards, and the man managed to flee and speak to a nearby resident.

In April, Mr Haebich and Ms McCarthy were then allegedly seen in a vehicle bearing false number plates in Ballarat Central.

Haebich was said to have reversed as police moved to intercept him and collided with a parked vehicle.

The two were later arrested at Mt Helen.

Ms McCarthy, 19, was charged with detaining a person, unlawful imprisonment, compelled rape, intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, assault.

Mr Haebich, 31, was charged with detaining a person, unlawful imprisonment, compelled rape, intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, assault, trespass, theft, reckless conduct, failing to stop on police direction and failing to stop at an accident.

Mr Nunn, 24, was charged with detaining a person, unlawful imprisonment, compelled rape, intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, assault.

Mr Slater, 35, was charged with detaining a person, unlawful imprisonment, trespass, theft, and possessing methylamphetamine.

Another man remains outstanding.

Ms McCarthy is on bail.

Mr Slater was said to have only been involved in the movement of allegedly stolen items out of the Newington home and was also bailed on Thursday.

The matters were adjourned to a later date.
