A Ballarat emergency worker has been hospitalised after she was allegedly assaulted while walking to work on Friday morning.

Police have charged a 25-year-old Sunshine West man over the alleged incident on Drummond St on Friday morning.

Authorities will allege the man approached the woman and dragged her across Webster St before trying to steal her jewellery.

The woman was allegedly assaulted to the head, then the man ran from the scene with one of her shoes.

The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The alleged attacker was arrested nearby a short time later.

He is facing charges including robbery, recklessly cause injury, assaulting an emergency worker, and state false name.

He was bailed to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court in June next year.
