A boozed-up Ballarat spray painter drove three times over the limit and crashed into an Alfredton home, nearly hitting residents asleep in their bed, a court has heard.
Bryan Bradley, 43, faced Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with dangerous driving and drink driving.
The court heard that on the afternoon of June 9, 2024, Bradley drank a litre of vodka in 45 minutes.
Just after midnight the next morning, he went to a property in an Alfredton home, pulling up next to the address.
He reversed through a side fence, hit a letterbox, and went through the corner of a neighbouring home, ending up “right next to the bed” of residents sleeping in a front master bedroom, the court was told.
The victims believed the ruckus was an earthquake and emerged to discover “extensive damage” to the property.
Bradley told police when they arrived that there was something wrong with his car, and at the station recorded a BAC of .162.
Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz said Bradley was “a hair’s breadth away” from injuring someone.
“He’s right next to the bed when he’s gone through the corner of the building there,” she said while looking at images of the crash.
“ … It’s just staggering when you see the bed right beside the folded and crumbling corner of the house.”
Bradley will be assessed for a community correction order and return to court on October 17.
His licence was disqualified for 32 months from June.
