A single-storey motel has been proposed for Ballarat’s east.
The proposal for a 30-room venue at 705 to 711 Geelong Rd in Canadian is currently before the City of Ballarat.
The motel, on a 4090 sqm vacant site, would accommodate a maximum of 90 people in 14 single-bed rooms and 16 double-bed rooms. Each room would have an undercover veranda.
It would feature a guest lounge, with reception hours from 8am to 8pm each day of the week.
Guests could take advantage of continental breakfasts and room service, with check-in times from 2pm to 8pm and check-out by 10am.
A manager would be on site at all times.
“The site being located in a Convenience Living Area and a frequent public transport corridor provides motel guests with great access to the city of Ballarat and its facilities without the need for driving,” documents said.
“Guests can easily get to CBD facilities via public transport but can also get to facilities such as Sovereign Hill, the Golden Point Hotel and the Canadian Creek on foot.”
An arborist has suggested two 18m trees be removed for the development - one an Indigenous scented bark in “good” health but physically in the way, the other a native white gum also in “good” health but with “poor” structure.
A report also indicated eight car accidents have occurred within 500m of the site in the past five years, half at the nearby roundabout.
