Ballarat’s Provincial Hotel has been sold following a five-year revival by the Coghlan family.
In July 2018, Gorgi and Simon Coghlan took over the Lydiard St hotel, which was run-down at the time, and spent six months renovating it.
Mr Coghlan said the venue had a “great bounce back” following the Covid pandemic and had since gone from “strength to strength”.
The pair handed the Provincial’s keys to new owners on August 24.
“We’re thrilled,” Mr Coghlan said.
“We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved and what’s been set up in town.
“Gorgi and I have poured our heart and soul into it for five years and we’ve now got a great team there that are very passionate and fantastic ambassadors for Ballarat.
“We look forward to seeing it succeed well into the future.”
He said the reason for the sale was his Ms Coghlan’s primary passion being the “creative aspect” of hospitality.
“I’ve had 20 years of experience in operation but our passion really is in the creation,” Mr Coghlan said.
“We’ll have a breather and then we’ll look at what’s next.”
The Provincial was contacted for comment.
