Police investigate unconfirmed reports man was murdered in Ballarat in 2016

Bizarre tip-offs claim a mystery man was murdered in Ballarat — but police have been unable to uncover a body or the man’s identity.

Police say information from the public could confirm a man was murdered in Ballarat in 2016.

Missing Persons Squad detectives are appealing for people to come forward after a number of unconfirmed information reports suggest an unknown male was murdered.

The anonymous reports, received over the last 24 months, say his body was disposed of by unknown means.

Despite countless enquiries, including a thorough search of both state and national missing person databases, investigators from the Missing Persons Squad have been unable to identify any person whose disappearance matches the information provided.

“Though this is quite an unusual case, unfortunately, it is not unheard of for somebody to go missing and never be reported,” Detective Sergeant Maurice Ryan said.

‘There can be varying reasons for this, but when information like this is received, it is our responsibility to ensure we investigate fully and do all we can to establish if there is any truth to the information.

‘For this reason, we’re asking anyone with any information on a possible murder in Ballarat in early 2016 to come forward and contact police.”

Investigators from the Missing Persons Squad are now seeking assistance from the public in an effort to determine if the information provided is valid.

Police are appealing for any information on persons from the region who have not been sighted or heard from since this time.
