Mount Rowan Secondary College Ballarat: Teen’s hair chopped off in fight

Two Ballarat school girls have been filmed fighting and pulling each other’s hair while classmates egg them on, with police investigating the shocking incident.

What to do if you think a child is being abused

A teenager had a chunk of her hair cut off during a violent fight with another Ballarat schoolgirl.

The girls were filmed fighting and pulling at each other’s hair in the schoolyard of Wendouree’s Mount Rowan Secondary College this week.

Videos, filmed by the girls’ peers – who stood around them, screaming, swearing and encouraging the pair – are circulating online.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident, which happened about 1.30pm Monday.

A police spokesperson said a 13-year-old had assaulted a 15-year-old by cutting off her hair.

It is understood the girl used a pair of scissors to carry out the assault.

Police believe the assault is linked to a separate reported assault between the same two students last week.

They said they were working closely with the school and the Department of Education to investigate.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education condemned the behaviour.

“Our schools have zero tolerance for any form of bullying or violence and will always take appropriate action if an incident occurs.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our students is always our top priority.”

It did not respond to questions about what action had been taken and if either child has been suspended.
