Police have blasted the “extremely dangerous” decision by two Melton men who attempted to flee an intercept in Melton on Thursday morning.
At around 10.50am, Melton police identified a Holden sedan believed to have been involved in a police ramming incident in Melton on Wednesday.
They attempted to intercept the vehicle, which failed to stop and led police on a short chase through Melton.
They deployed stop sticks on Barries Rd, which again failed to stop the driver.
Behind a busy shopping centre on Barries Rd, a “significant collision” unfolded with three police vehicles used to box in the sedan.
Brimbank Divisional Commander Superintendent Michael Cruse said three officers taken to hospital with injuries following the collision had since been released.
“Very disappointing three police officers were injured, they’ve all since been checked and released,” he said.
“It’s extremely fortunate that no another person in the community was impacted by this and that‘s why police had to take the action they did.”
He said officers had attempted to arrest the driver of the vehicle on Wednesday, where he allegedly put an officer at risk of injury and rammed a vehicle.
We were there to attempt to speak to the driver, its obviously concerning behaviour,” he said.
“The driving was very dangerous.”
Two men were arrested at the scene; the 27-year-old driver from Melton and a 55-year-old passenger from Melton South.
Both were put under police guard in hospital having sustained non-life-threatening wounds as a result of the pursuit.
Supt Cruse said the driver had since been released into police custody and was assisting with inquiries.
He called on any further witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
