The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A young girl has died after suffering critical wounds in a car crash at a popular western tourist destination.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Buckler Rd and Grampians Rd in Halls Gap just before 9am on Thursday, where a car crashed into a tree.

It is believed the vehicle was moving south on Grampians Rd, which has a 60km/h speed limit, and veered off the road.

Paramedics worked on two patients at the scene.

A toddler, 2, was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition and a woman, 22, was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition with serious injuries.

Victoria Police confirmed the toddler died on Friday.

Sixty-four people have died on Victorian roads so far this year, compared with 48 at the same time last year.
