Amphitheatre driver dies in single vehicle crash on Pyrenees Highway at Avoca

The driver who died in a crash on the Pyrenees Highway has been identified as a 79-year-old Amphitheatre man.

A central Victorian driver died in a crash on a highway northwest of Ballarat last Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to a fatal single vehicle crash along the Pyrenees Highway in Avoca about 2.30am on January 16 after a passing motorist spotted a crashed vehicle.

Police believe the driver of a white Toyota Corolla was travelling north on the Pyrenees Highway, between the two junctions of Porcupine Lane, when he lost control and crashed between 9pm on Wednesday and his later discovery.

The 79-year-old Amphitheatre man could not be revived at the scene.

An investigation is underway.

Seventeen people have died on Victorian roads since the beginning of the year, compared with 16 last year.
