A Lucas man charged over a fatal accident in Trawalla which killed a road worker has faced court.

A Lucas man charged over a fatal crash which killed a road worker near Ballarat has faced court.

David Hastings, 40, was charged with dangerous driving causing death following the incident on the Western Highway at Trawalla on October 21 last year.

A 59-year-old road worker from Creswick died after he was allegedly hit by Hastings’ Toyota ute.

Police will allege Hastings stopped his vehicle, tried to help the man, and called triple-zero.

The worker was setting up road works near the Trawalla on-ramp to the Western Highway about 7.20am when the accident happened.

Hastings faced the Ballarat Magistrates Court briefly on Thursday.

He will return to court on Thursday September 9.
