Ballarat is mourning another popular teacher after it was announced Loreto College had lost a “beautiful soul”.

The ‘role of teachers’ in this country is ‘wholly undervalued’

Ballarat has been rocked by the death of two popular teachers within days of each other.

Loreto College announced the death of one of its teachers, Stephanie Carswell, on Wednesday afternoon.

Ms Carswell taught English, English Language, and Humanities at Loreto from 2019 to 2021.

She suffered from brain cancer.

“She was caring, gentle and intelligent,” the college said.

“Her dedication to her work came through in her patience, kind words and willingness to accept people for themselves.”

Those reacting to the news expressed their sympathy to Ms Carswell’s family.

One woman wrote online: “A beautiful soul who taught my daughter.

“Thoughts with Stephanie’s family and Loreto friends,” she said.

The news follows the death at the weekend of another Ballarat teacher, James Petrie.
