From a footy umpire offering a 14-year-old schoolgirl cash for sex, to a man taking explicit pictures of a toddler at a party, we have compiled a list of some of Ballarat’s sex offenders.
JACK LOVEDAY
A former Horsham footy umpire who groomed a schoolgirl via social media before sexually assaulting his traumatised victim has been jailed.
Loveday, a father, claimed he knew what he did was wrong but was “desperate” for a girlfriend despite knowing he could lose access to his son if caught.
MITCHELL CLARK
An ice user who had sex with an underage girl he met on Facebook has escaped spending time behind bars.
Clark, then 17, first met the girl online when she was 14 in early 2018 before meeting up with her at the Brewery Tap Motel, where they had sex and smoked cannabis and ice.
He pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual penetration of a child under 16 years.
Clark was not registered as a sex offender.
WARREN CARTER
A Ballarat North father detained two girls, demanding one have sex with him before lunging at her face with a screwdriver when she refused.
Later in the night Carter became angry and demanded the child have sex with him, telling her “I need a f***, and you’re not leaving this room until you have sex with me”.
He pleaded guilty to two charges of false imprisonment and one count each of common assault, threatening to inflict serious injury and possessing child abuse material.
DANIEL MOORE
A petrol station attendant took naked photos of a toddler as she watched television while her unsuspecting father entertained guests at his home.
Daniel Moore, 35, was sentenced to a three-year community corrections order.
On Christmas Eve in 2019, Moore was at his three-year-old victim’s house, when he abused his position of trust.
Moore left the party in the garage to go inside, and as he was heading back out he noticed the toddler sitting alone and watching television.
He took intimate photos of her and went back outside to the group which included the girl’s father.
EDWARD BUNKER
A man who was more than twice the age of his 12-year-old victim when he had sex with her after meeting online, has been freed from jail.
The court heard the girl’s aunt searched the child’s Facebook account and when she found photos of Bunker, sent him a message saying he was “f***** in the head”.
“You have some serious issues you need to be locked away and the key thrown away,” it read.
“She is only 12 you are seriously the scum of the earth you need to be punished.”
Bunker was sentenced to almost two years jail as time already served in the County Court.
He will be subject to an 18-month community corrections order and have to undertake a sex offenders program as well as other treatment.
KANE CAMERON
A former Basketball Ballarat staffer and St Patrick’s College student was caught grooming a young girl via Instagram.
Cameron tried to persuade the teen to send him nude photos, and at one stage sent a photo of his penis to her father who was posing as the girl.
The court heard Cameron sent sexually explicit messages to the teenager and tried to persuade her to send nude photos of herself to him.
The girl’s father posing as his daughter, sent messages to Cameron about the age gap and illegality of his conduct.
Cameron, who believed he was communicating with the girl, sent an image of his penis.
He pleaded guilty to one charge of use a carriage service to procure person under 16 years of age.
Cameron was sentenced to a two-year community corrections order and 150 hours of unpaid work in the County Court.
He was placed on the sex offenders register for eight years.
