A Ballarat school has been ordered to isolate for the next 48 hours after a student’s family member tested positive to Covid.
Ballarat Clarendon College said it had been told a family of a senior student tested positive on Friday morning.
In an email Ballarat Clarendon College Principal David Sheppard said it had been in consultation with the Victorian Government.
After receiving advice from the Grampians Public Health Unit, the school has ordered that any student, staff member, worker and visitor who has attended any Clarendon campus between Tuesday July 12 until Friday July 16 must stay at home and isolate.
“Given the speed with which the Delta variant is moving from person to person, anyone associated with the school and their household is asked to quarantine for 48 hours in the first instance,” Mr Sheppard said.
“This means that you should stop what you are doing now, go directly home and stay home from now until further notice.
“Leave home only to get a test for Covid symptoms.
“Your actions will help keep the school community, friends, extended family and the wider community safe.
“It is our collective responsibility to follow the advice and guidance of health experts.
“This is obviously an unsettling time for us all but particularly the Clarendon family as they navigate the next few days. ”
It is the first Covid positive in Ballarat since a weak positive was detected in a returned traveller in May which was declared a false positive.
The school and the department have been contacted for comment.
