Here is a complete guide of all the major events taking place across Victoria to commemorate Anzac Day.

Tens of thousands of Victorians are expected to set their alarms early on Thursday, with dawn services being held across the state to mark Anzac Day.

There are about 130 dawn services being held across the state, with more services and marches to be held later in the day.

At the Hampton RSL sub-branch, Anzac Day commemorations will begin on Tuesday as schoolchildren commemorate at the Cenotaph.

“All the kids come and they lay books from the school — that’s a nice thing for the young ones to learn — what we’re all about and why we’re here,” Hampton RSL sub-branch welfare officer Bill Mirabito said.

Then, on Anzac Day, the sub-branch will host a Dawn Service that traditionally draws crowds of up to 2000.

“It’s really important that people understand that so many soldiers made sacrifices for our country,” Mr Mirabito said.

“And the Hampton is one of the only RSL clubs on the waterfront now — we’re one RSL that really fought to survive and we’re upholding the tradition of the RSL values and looking after the veterans who have been involved in the services after all these years.”

Vice-president Corey Denning — who has served in the army for 32 years, including in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan — said his great-uncle Albert Stanley Scott died on day three of the Gallipoli campaign.

He said the importance of Anzac Day was honouring those who have given their life in service of the nation.

“We’re reflecting on their sacrifices,” Mr Denning said.

He added the significance of the Dawn Service was the time of day the soldiers landed at Anzac Cove at Gallipoli.

“We gather at that time to reflect on the timing to honour them. We also play ‘the Last Post’ and read out the poem,” he said.

The Shrine of Remembrance in the city is expected to draw the largest crowds, with its service beginning at 5.30am.
