A popular city nightclub will make its much anticipated return to Melbourne’s party scene next month after a three-year hiatus, with the help of an AFL legend.

Alumbra will reclaim its place as the city’s clubbing capital when it reopens on Saturday March 18 from South Melbourne’s Albion Rooftop, which is part-owned by Brownlow medallist and former Collingwood star Dane Swan.

The club was famously forced to evacuate its home of 15 years in 2019 at Central Pier in Docklands after the area was deemed unsafe due to significant deterioration and instability.

Boris Radman, Christian Colaianni, Steve Bolonis, Borce Kajmakoski and Jeremy Boudoloh join Dean Vas - who has been involved with Alumbra since its inception - in a new “superteam” eager to restore the club to its former glory.

Mr Vas said he has “not been this excited” about Alumbra for years.

“Alumbra was more than a space, it was a community for people to come,” Mr Vas said.

“To this day I’m still invited to people’s weddings where the couples met at Alumbra and their kids’ christenings.

“We never got to say goodbye on our terms which is why it’s really exciting to begin this new chapter.”

Likewise Mr Radman, one of club’s new directors, said he is excited to welcome a new generation that previously missed out.

“This club has captivated people in Melbourne and Australia for the last 25 years, it’s a massive brand,” he said.

“The club almost has a folklore to it, it’s become an institution in many people’s lives.

“The feedback has been overwhelming. We’ve been inundated with calls and requests through every means of communication.”

Last week Alumbra’s revival was announced on social media and via SMS to about 175,000 people.

The club will have “two massive levels” with RnB, house and minimal rooms as well as more than 20 VIP booths.

Alumbra has indicated it will remain open until 4am on Sundays

In its heyday the club attracted stars such as US rapper Tyga and multiple Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt.
