An Albury teen will spend Christmas and his 19th birthday behind bars after he was charged with two terrorism offences relating to his alleged involvement with extreme right wing group the European Brotherhood.
Tyler Jakovac faced Albury Local Court on Thursday on charges of urging violence against groups which threatens the order of the government and advocating for a terrorist act or commissioning an act of terrorism.
It is alleged the 18-year-old urged subscribers of telegram channel European Brotherhood SS to use force or violence against non-whites, Jews, and Muslims, and intentionally advocated for the commission of a terrorism offence.
The Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions asked that the brief of evidence be served by February 18, 2021, and that the matter be transferred to Parramatta Local Court, as the chief magistrate prefers terrorism matters to be heard there, and adjourned to February 26.
Jakovac’s defence solicitor Mark Rosalky did not oppose the transfer or the adjournment, but asked that the accused receive mental health treatment while in custody.
The accused did not apply for bail.
Jakovac was arrested at his Ibis Close home in East Albury on December 9.
He will appear in Parramatta Local Court on February 26.
