An Albury woman has faced court after smashing the windscreens of four cars outside Albury Police Station, including a marked police car.

A woman walked into the Albury Police Station and told them to “lock her up” after she smashed the windscreens of four vehicles, including a police car.

Samantha Louise Gasperov, 27, appeared in Albury Local Court on Monday May 17 where she pleaded guilty to seven counts of destroying property and shoplifting.

Court documents revealed Gasperov threw bricks through the windscreens of a grey Ford Ranger, yellow Hyundai Jazz, an Iveco Daily truck, and a marked police car, parked outside the Albury Police Station on Olive St on February 2 2021.

Gasperov then walked into the police station and said: “You better lock me up, I just smashed up your cop cars ‘ya dogs.”

Police then went outside and sighted the damage before arresting Gasperov.

Court documents also revealed Gasperov smashed the windows of three Albury businesses on March 13, 2021.

Gasperov attended The Cottage Motor Inn on Hume St and after arriving on her scooter, requested a room.

The owner informed Gasperov that all the rooms were full, and as she was leaving, she swung her scooter and smashed a window at the motel.

She also used her scooter to smash a glass door at First Choice Liquor on Young St, and Jack and Jill Bridal on Dean St.

The offender was arrested the next morning at West End Plaza.

Gasperov’s Legal Aid defence solicitor said his client had started using drugs which had led to her losing her home and her job, and after a some time without using drugs, she relapsed which led to her offending.

“She is motivated to address her problems … there is a clear connection between her offending and drug use,” her solicitor said.

“She was kicked out of her home, she was homeless, she reacted poorly and went out and smashed these cars.”

The defence said Gasperov had drug-induced schizophrenia, and had been receiving the depot injection since she entered custody in March.

Magistrate Richard Funston was not impressed with Gasperov’s offending.

“They were innocent people with their cars parked,” Mr Funston said.

“Hardworking public servants, hard working police officers, hardworking cleaners.”

However, Mr Funston noted Gasperov had already served two months in custody, and seemed to have her mental health under control.

“Keep taking those depot injections,” he said.

“You’re a much calmer person today than you were on previous occasions.”

Gasperov was sentenced to a 12 month community corrections order with supervision.
