Murray Bushrangers pre-season teams revealed

The Murray Bushrangers have named their pre-season teams ahead of the 2022 NAB League. See who made it.

Thirty-eight Albury Wodonga stars have been selected for the Murray Bushrangers’ NAB League squads.

Girls and boys across the North East Border, Goulburn Murray and Southern NSW regions received the nod after a weekend of testing in Shepparton earlier this month.

Traditionally, the Bushrangers select teams using a series of trial matches involving short-listed players from local academies.

But, as Covid has disrupted most of this year’s footy, prospective players tested over a weekend after being nominated by their clubs.

The ‘Bushies’ will be hoping to find consistency in this year’s season after Covid wreaked havoc across the league, leaving some teams playing only two games, and others playing 11.

Albury’s Isaac McGrath is one of three boys to be selected from outside the 2021 squad, while Lavington’s Grace Hay received special mention from selectors for an excellent trials performance.

The boy’s squad will complete five weeks of pre-season training from November 21 through to Christmas in the lead up to round one in early April.

The girl’s pre-season is already underway as they train for their first match in late January.

The NAB League is an integral landing point for those vying to make AFL selection, and Murray Bushrangers lead coach Mark Brown said he was confident he could get result out his women players.

“Excitingly, there were many girls that demonstrated the necessary talent profiles to progress to the elite AFLW level,” he said.
