An 36-year-old North Albury man has faced court after police found a hydroponic cannabis set up in his home where he also allegedly broke his step dad’s skull with a tradie’s tool.

Matthew Richard Brosolo, 36, faced Albury Local Court on Friday on a string of assault related and drug charges.

Police will allege a fight broke out between Mr Brosolo and his stepfather, 50, at Mr Brosolo’s Wantigong St address about 3pm on Wednesday.

Mr Brosolo allegedly hit the older man in the head, arm and knee with a tradie’s tool.

His stepfather was flown from Albury Base Hospital to Melbourne with a suspected fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and lacerations to his leg and arm.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District were notified and established a crime scene where they allegedly discovered the hydroponic cannabis set up.

Mr Brosolo was arrested about 9.30pm.

Police will allege he tried to flee from the officers, with a female officer sustaining a laceration to her hand during the arrest.

Mr Brosolo was also taken to hospital after he was injured in the earlier fight.

As part of further inquiries, the police searched the man’s home, and officers seized 58 prohibited plants, as well as loose cannabis.

Mr Brosolo appeared in Albury Local Court via video link, but made no application for bail.

His mother and a friend supported him in court.

“Thank you family, miss you,” Mr Brosolo said.

“We love you a lot,” one of the women said.

Magistrate Richard Funston adjourned the matter until July 19.
