The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

Friends and family of a young Albury dad killed in a motorcycle crash at Wodonga last Monday are fundraising to give him “the best send off possible”.

Issac Smith, 18, was remembered for his loyalty and “big heart” after he was killed on the Lincoln Causeway last month.

The GoFundMe hopes to raise $5000 for the funeral and has already raised $1766.

Caleb McMahon, the organiser, said “any help with laying him to rest and making sure he has the best send off possible would be a big help to his family”.

Close friends and family will gather for Issac’s funeral on April 7 at Lester and Son Funeral Home in North Albury.

His best mate Jedd Levy said Issac, a father to a four-month-old girl, was part of a tight-knit group of young men who loved riding motorbikes, fixing bikes and helping each other with their personal struggles.

“He was always there for us boys, we were always on the road together all day, every day. He was always putting smiles on us and making life really fun for us four,” Jedd said.

“He’s a loyal man who had a huge heart.

“Us boys will always be his ride-or-die brothers no matter what.”

Issac’s friends said the loss hurt even more knowing his little girl would grow up without her father.

Issac’s sister-in-law Jakohda Charles paid tribute to him online: “May your beautiful soul rest easy my brother in law! Forever thinking of you. My heart goes out to my beautiful sister and niece, life is too shot, you just never know.”

Friend Caleb Michael Chant said: “I’ll forever look over bubs for you.”

Another friend, Nathan Kramer, wrote: “I’ll forever appreciate the memories I have with you. Till our next ride brother.”

There have been 62 people killed on Victorian roads in 2022; compared to 53 this time last year.
