Lavington house fire: Elderly couple escape Dale Corner blaze unscathed

An elderly Lavington couple who discovered a fire in their bedroom after smelling smoke have escaped completely unscathed. with police now investigating the cause of the blaze.

An elderly couple have escaped unscathed after a fire crews attended a blaze at their Lavington home this afternoon.

After receiving a triple-0 call at 1.25pm, three fire crews attended the home at Dale Corner at about 1.32pm, and arrived to find smoke billowing from the side of the single-storey home.

Albury Central station officer Nick Beattie said the fire had started in the bedroom.

“They became aware of it because they could smell smoke,” Mr Beattie said.

“The bedroom door was closed and once they opened it the fire alarms were activated.”

The crews managed to contain the fire to the bedroom and extinguish it before it spread to the rest of the house.

“There was heat and smoke damage to the rest of the house,” Mr Beattie said.
NSW Ambulance also attended the scene, but neither patient needed further transport to hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
